Film Review Romeo Must Die - 1269 Words

Romeo Must Die is an action film released in the year 2000, the plot is similar to that of Romeo and Juliet, due to the rivaling families and the forbidden love, but the root of the hostility is different. Race seems to be the main proponent of this division. The film begins with Po Sing who is the son of Chu Sing, leader of a chinese gang, Po is in a predominantly african american club, after an altercation, Kai who is Chu Sing’s right hand man intervenes and sends Po home. A fight ensues and the next day Po is found dead. We then meet Han Sing played by actor Jet Li, Han is imprisoned in Hong Kong but after the news is revealed that his brother has died (Po) he escapes and heads to the United States to avenge his brother s death. Han meets Trish O’Day, the daughter of a Isaak O’Day, he is the leader of an african american gang that is at war with Chu Sing. Due to Po’s death Isaak finds it necessary to protect his children, so he assigns them bodyguards t o protect them from Chinese retaliation. However this does not prevent Trish and Han from seeing each other and as their relationship deepens so does the consequences for their actions. They are kidnapped after catching on to the plan of Kai and Mac, who is Isaaks right hand man and then Han and Trish are separated. Han has to fight his way out of this dilemma using kung-fu and as he reunites with Trish he learns that the death of his brother was internal.
